Meditative Bondage

Meditation Through Bondage

Bound hands in a meditative position.

Have you ever paid attention to a rope bunny when they are suspended gracefully above the ground -- do you see the peaceful, centered look painted across a blushing face?  Their body’s in the pose you have certainly seen in a meditative yoga class.  So, other than the poses, do yoga and bondage both provide a not so different way to meditate?

What is Meditation

Meditation is the practice of awareness, and when tied into an elegant position in bondage your focus and awareness are on that of self -- making bondage a meditative state.  While meditating, one must entirely clear their mind and focus on a singular activity, thought or object.  Both meditating and in an active BDSM scene paying attention to breathing is crucial if the desired result is that of tranquility and peacefulness.  No wonder bondage provides an experience similar to the relaxing effects of yoga.  Your mind is clear, focused on nothing but your body, the rope, and breathing.

Centering the Mind

Preparing to be tied up or tied down in any bondage scenario requires a clear mind.  Specifically, in a bondage experience, it is crucial to listen to your body.  Controlling your breathing, maintaining awareness of the body and its position are all part of bondage allowing for it to be a cathartic activity.  Bringing the mind into the scene and focusing your attention on being mindful of the experience creates a centeredness leading to intense fulfillment.

Different Mental Focuses

There are different ways to meditate that yield a variety of mental and emotional rewards.  Focusing on the body and the position can create a feeling of self positivity.  Putting your awareness on the beautiful art that you have become part of can boost your self-esteem and confidence.  Focusing on your breathing during a meditative or bondage session can result in lowering anxiety.  Putting all attention and awareness in the feeling of the rope on one’s skin creates a grounding and connectedness to the bondage scene and all involved.  Awareness to any of these areas starts with the mind -- where the mind goes the body and soul are sure to follow.

Focusing on the Body

Bondage is so captivating.  Something as simple as a weave harness and a rope bunny already feels like a goddess!  Focusing your awareness on the position of your body can make you think about your body in a very positive way.  Seeing the graceful arch of the back, or the sophisticated bend of an elbow leading to the elegant fingers extended towards a lover can leave an appreciation for self that was never known before being tied up.  Focusing on the feeling of compression and the rope against your skin brings a heightened awareness to the body.  So, I guess we’ve been going about body positivity the wrong way all along, we don’t need social media arguments, we just need more bondage!

Focusing on the Breath

Focusing on breathing and controlling the breath is so important for anyone who participates in bondage.  Being aware of the restriction caused by a chest harness or a restraint around the neck and making sure to breath slowly is paramount to avoid a lack of oxygen leading to dizziness and shortness of breath.  Deep breathing may not be an option for this specific type of meditation but focusing and being aware of taking full breaths will calm you and bring awareness to the compression of the ropes that bind you.  Breathing is an especially important element to meditation.  Focusing on breath is proven to reduce anxiety and stress leaving you feeling renewed after the session.

Breathing through Trepidation

It is especially important to focus on breathing when you are feeling worried.  Allowing your breathing to become short and fast will lead to oxygen deprivation and end a scene -- while maintaining attention and focus to breathe slowly and into unrestrained areas will keep you tranquil and result in a serene bondage session.  If you find yourself beginning to breathe rapidly during a bondage play session, bring the attention of your mind to your breathing and begin to slow your breathing and still your mind.  Find peace in the compression.

Practice Breathing for Bondage

During a yoga class, you will often hear an instruct tell yogi’s to breathe into any tightness.  This is also very useful for rope bondage depending on the position a bottom may find themselves in.  Learning to breathe into a stretch will help loosen muscles for more extreme poses.  Practicing belly breathing is also important since chest breathing may be limited due to compression.  Chest breathing is taking air in and the chest rises and falls.  Belly breathing can be practiced by placing a hand on your stomach and mindfully breathing to make your stomach rise and fall.  To put attention to this practice before adding rope compression will help you calmly breathe during a bondage scene.

After a Bondage Scene

When the ropes are removed and the aftercare has successfully comforted both rope tops and bottoms, a bottom should feel very peaceful and probably tired with a clear mind and a refreshed sense of wellbeing.  This is why participating in rope bondage can be a great addition to meditation practices.  When prepared to connect mind, body, spirit, and of course breathing practices, rope bondage can lead to nirvana.  Meditation through bondage can result in mental clarity, stress reduction, lowering anxiety, increased emotional health, enhance self-awareness, self-esteem, and even give rise to a greater attention span.  Find the state of tranquility and acceptance -- find peace and blissful happiness and relax like never before!  Who doesn’t want that?

Bondage and Connectedness

BDSM obviously has the ability to promote connectedness with others through sex and non-sexual rope bondage experiences.  Meditative bondage can grow a personal affinity for self as well as self-healing.  Promote mental and emotional health -- gain clarity and a loving relationship with yourself and your partner through feverish, fun rope bondage meditation.
